How long does the post office hold a package?

Question by BwompBwomp: How long does the post office hold a package?
I have a few packages that I’ve ordered that have never shown up. After talking with the respective sellers, I’m starting to wonder if its the fault of the post office and that they have either lost or held onto my packages for whatever reason.

I heard that sometimes the post office holds auctions on some parcels that don’t arrive at their destinations or return to their senders, so how long do they hold onto these packages? I can’t make it to the post office in my town right away, but it would be helpful for me to know.

They hold forever until someone picks it up!

Question by DEMers: How can I start a National Office for My Fraternity?
I am trying to setup the national HQ/National Office for my Fraternity. We are a new fraternity with about 5 chapters but have no national office. What do you need in order to start a national office for a New Fraternity? What does the National Office do and what are they in charge of? How do we go about so that we have liability insurance, since a lot of school ask about that?

Well congratulations first off…I’m going to just list what national head quarters are usually in charge of because there is allot of stuff:

Has an executive board: pres VP Sec Treas.
oversees all chapters
collects active dues
gets all chapters insured
holds leadership conferences
holds conventions for all chapters to attend
creates scholarships
participates and adopts philanthropies
keeps in touch with Greek advisers at your university
manages, updates and creates bi laws, rituals and any other manuals
distributes all resources to chapters

That’s a few ideas of what they do…I suggest you visit random fraternity headquarter websites for better understanding. you can start with ours deltasig.org

By the most national websites are the name and .org
Good Luck

How to deduct home office in a house in which mortgage is paid off?

Question by Bobby: How to deduct home office in a house in which mortgage is paid off?
Situation:
1) Small business owner has his only office in his home.
2) He paid the mortgage off. House is totally debt free.
3) He uses one room as his only office that he otherwise would use as another family room if he would for example rent space for his business in a business building not belonging to him.
4) Can he bill his business with rent for that room in his own home?
5) Can he deduct rent for that office room?
6) If he ever would sell this house one day, would it still be a private house sale?

Best answer:

Answer by M P
I believe you can deduct a percentange of the home/room you use for an office.
I don’t believe he can charge himself rent – obvious reason.
He may be able to deduct some of the electric and or heating/cooling.
Don’t forget about business equipment, furniture, supplies, etc.
I would consult a CPA for the best source of information other than trying to do it myself. Plus, when they sign the tax returns they answer any questions if it is audited. Worth the extra $$ to have them.

Question by Susan: How to start an office cleaning service?
I would like to start an office cleaning service in my area. I am close to retirement, out of work and would like to be my own boss. I thought a office cleaning service would be ideal. I understand that I will need a bonded insurance to cover any theft by employees. My question is, how do I get started? The community I live in is about 30,000 people with many offices and factories around. What books do I need to read to get some ideas?

Step 1 Office cleaning is a high-demand trade right now. With so many small business owner’s trying to handle so many aspects of their business, there will always be a need for a professional cleaning service. Following are ways to get started in the office cleaning industry, for more detailed information, visit the link provided in the resources box below article.

Step 2 To get started in a cleaning business for offices, you will need to locate potential clients and market to them individually. The best way to do target marketing for office cleaning is by direct contact. Personal contact is the best and most cost effective way to get clients for this type of business. Hiring a cleaning company requires a lot of trust in the person that will be in alone in their store and also hold a key to the door.

Step 3 Begin by stopping by local businesses and deliver a flyer or brochure covering the services you provide. If possible, try to speak directly with the owner or manager to discuss the options available to them. Try to immediately determine if there is a need for an outside cleaning service. If the owner is not available, or busy at the time you stop in, try to set up a time to get back with them after they have had a chance to look over your information.

Step 4 If you don’t have time to visit each business in person, the next best technique is contact by phone. When calling, be sure to professionally introduce yourself as a local business. Try something like, “Hello, this is (your name) with ABC Cleaning here in (city). This immediately tells the person on the other end of the phone that you are not an out-of-town telemarketer. Once you have established who you are, you can begin to ask a few brief questions to find out if your services could be needed. If they are, simply set an appointment to come by and give an estimate.

Step 5 Once you begin to get customers, you will need to very organized so that you know of any special requests that each client has asked for. Try carrying a small index card box or notebook with brief notes for the steps needed at each location. Another great idea is to use a standard checklist for each location with an area to write in extras needed. Take these with you to each job and check off each step as completed, this will keep you on track and avoid overlooking needed services.

I am having a hard time locating office space in the airpark area. Either the agents won’t return the calls, smaller space is unavailable, or it is an executive suite, which we are not interested in. I know there are a lot of offices, but I am not sure how to find the right one. I am looking for an office between 500 – 750 sq ft. Any suggestions?

Anything to make the room seem bigger? Or any other good home office decorating tips?
