I took the drive out and soaked it overnight in warm water and detergent.. Gave it several rinses after wards and dried it. My PC now won’t work, what have I done wrong?

Certain parts are stored in different places and organizing this makes your hard drive work less vs not defragging it and it working more. the only thing I can think of, is that during the defragmentation, the system noticed bad sectors/corrupt pieces of your hard drive, and marked those sectors as unusable, thus reducing both your total capacity, as well as your free space.
