What is a good antivirus program out there to use?
Question by Lisa B: What is a good antivirus program out there to use?
I purchased a used computer about 10 months ago and the guy had put Norton Antivirus on it before I bought it. It is now up for renewal and I don’t know if I should renew it or not. Is having an antivirus necessary? What are some good programs? Are there any out there that are free to use? Should I stay with the Norton Antivirus? Please help me….I only have 6 more days left with this antivirus left.

Having an up to date anti-virus is very important (it only takes 2 minutes on average for your computer to be compromised). Norton is bloatware and I would not recommend it at all. If you want to pay for an anti-virus Kaspersky is the best. If you want a free anti-virus I recommend in order of popularity, but I leave the decision to you (install only one):
1. AVG Free
a. A simple interface
b. Can detect about 82.82% of viruses
Cons: low virus detection
2. Avast!
a. Real-time protection
b. It has an option to delete a virus once found
c. Can detect about 87.46% of viruses.
Cons: Too many icons and confusing user interface
3. Avira AntiVir
a. It can detect malware better than Avast and AVG
b. It’s cute umbrella icon
c. Can detect about 94.26% of viruses
Cons: A very sluggish update

How can I keep my computer on to download the antivirus programs?
Question by cheetahgirl0128712004: How can I keep my computer on to download the antivirus programs?
My computer is shutting itself down automatically doesn’t give me enough time to download or look at anything. How do I keep it open for awhile to download some antivirus programs?

Go to a friend’s computer (or even the library) and download the antivirus and/or antispyware program to a CD and get it on your computer that way; you will have to update it when you install it to your computer, but you may have better luck that way since you will be dealing directly with the antivirus/antispyware server and not opening a browser – the virus or malware program can prevent you from downloading any antivirus programs from a web site once you are online – updating an antivirus program once installed is a different story.

Have you switched from Norton Antivirus to a different anti-virus software and got better results?
Question by Dre D: Have you switched from Norton Antivirus to a different anti-virus software and got better results?
I’ve heard from a lot of people that Norton Antivirus is a very “heavyweight” antivirus program; it slows down your computer a lot. Has anybody switched anti-virus programs and experienced this while having good protection from viruses?

Is there any type of antivirus program I can download to remove “Antivirus Trigger”?
Question by Bear: Is there any type of antivirus program I can download to remove “Antivirus Trigger”?
Antivirus trigger is a fake program that can mess up your computer, apparently. At any rate, I’ve downloaded several real antivirus programs but the ones that have the ability to remove antivirus trigger cost around .
Does anyone have any experience with antivirus trigger?

Does an Antivirus Program have a better chance of detecting a Virus if it has a Boot-Time Scanner?
Question by Arthur codename Sniper115A3: Does an Antivirus Program have a better chance of detecting a Virus if it has a Boot-Time Scanner?
Like Avast! Antivirus has a boot-time scanner, meaning it starts the virus scanning right before Windows starts and loads everything including the viruses.
So, does an Antivirus Program have a better chance of detecting a Virus if it has a Boot-Time Scanner?
Best answer:
Answer by The_Wee_Ham
It depends on the type of virus.
Many viruses “hide” from windows once it is running and therefore boot-time scanners can find them more easily. That said, windows needs to partially start before the boot-time scanner can run. To be honest, good virus scanners are very sophisticated and should be able to detect viruses even if they are running on the computer actively when it scans.

How can reinstall an antivirus program after getting your hardware wiped out?
Question by eli =P: How can reinstall an antivirus program after getting your hardware wiped out?
I am getting my computer wiped for improvements but they said to put all the stuff you from your computer to a usb stick. The antivirus programs, Sophos and Clean Access Agent, are paid programs. Is there anyway to keep the programs with buying them again?

you should have a disk for these or download site where you get them from, just take all serials down and tehn reinstall again afterwards.

What’s the difference between an anti-virus and an anti-spyware program?
Question by Sam: What’s the difference between an anti-virus and an anti-spyware program?
So at the moment, I only have a program which says it’s anti spyware (Webroot Spy Sweeper) and was wondering if it also would protect my computer against viruses (and then I wondered what the difference between an Anti-Virus and an Anti-Spyware is). So if SpySweeper doesn’t protect against viruses should I get an anti-virus program? And would it mess up my computer with two security programs, because I’ve heard that if you have two Anti-Viruses on the same computer it will mess up things.
Thanks for any answers.

An antivirus program will protect you from getting any viruses on your computer, and antispyware will concentrate on the spyware programs but will also detect viruses once you already have gotten them, antivirus will reflect and antispyware will remove once you already have them. you cannot have 2 antivirus programs but you can have an anitvirus and an antispyware. for example you can have norton and superantispyware but not norton and mcaffee.

What Antivirus Program Is The Best For A Computer?
I know that Norton might rock, but myself personally, I can’t tolerate the way it uses all of my ram and slows my computer down. I use spy bot, but that isn’t enough. Is there anyone out there who knows of an antivirus program that will not eat up my bank account or my computer’s capacity to function at a normal rate? Thank you for your time……
